He grew unconditional love for music while growing up at tender age and began his music journey in secondary school before graduations and to continue higher institution; but dropped out along the process of getting Bachelors Degree programme in Engineering to chase his music passion fully. According to Kaptain,

“Music is the only thing I know how to do best. it’s my plan A and also my plan B. Even when my peers discouraged me and said I’m just fooling my self because at some point, the music wasn’t working for me. But I told them I had to because this is my plan A and also my plan B.” God has been paving way for me he added. “Well, we released a project recently and it seemed like a successful one. Over millions of total digital streams. Well, it reveals a whole lot of people love my art. My genre - “Afro-Rap Fusion.” It’s the Lords doing. He concludes.

So, tell me who is Kaptain and what is Kaptain all about in Nigerian music industry?

“Well, Kaptain is simply a leader in the Nigerian music industry. The pioneer of “Afro-Rap Fusion.” I simply want billions of people to listen to my record and follow Kaptain for his being realistic as he is initiating his own sauce as the leader of new school rap fusion in Nigeria music industry. I want listeners to get acquainted, feel greatly inspired after listening to my tunes. My genre. My own style! Well, I really want them to understand that it’s really not all about dancing to the Afro in my tunes, but I want you to feel some sort of deep connection through my art. I think it’s piercing at some point of relaxation! Because that’s really what Kaptain is about. He’s the leading curator of Afro-Rap Fusion in Nigerian music industry.” He says.

Well, that’s quite brilliant. So, tell me about  your music and what’s about?

“Well, my kind of music is unique. It’s the blend of Afro tunes and rap fusion. Basically I sing melodies and I also tell truth through rap, that’s the fusion! Expressing varieties of feelings. Many kind of feelings basically, from love to hate to depression to strength and weakness. Music is not just music to me, it’s more like a companion. I simply see the beat as a close person I commune with and have to share my feelings and thoughts to, because I trust it and I have no fear revealing secrets to it. “I really feel comfortable telling everything to the instrumentals. Because, there’s this resonance I cling” he says with feelings attached via his voice note.

So, how’s life starting out until you got to this point in your music career? You’re even initiating your own genre.

“Life have been really difficult because I was trying to figure out exactly what I wanted if I should focus more on music or something else, because at some point this music wasn’t working. I had friends who even discouraged my dream and told me to quit that music was never going to take me anywhere. Well, the ride has not been an easy one. Bumpy, smooth, groovy, sad, it’s been God.” He says giving cautious gratitude to the Lord, his manager and loving fans. “I’m extremely grateful.” He wraps up, feeling happy.

How’ve making music from the southern part of Nigeria been like for you - Kaptain?

“Well, um making music, not just every kind but inducting my own style as a south south artiste; has never been easy I must confess. Even for Burnaboy who inducted the “Afro-fusion” Fela esque blend, never found it easy even from the western part of the country. But then, even the Nigerian music industry is obviously been ruled by the western acts. So you are left to face the real hard-work or go home. I guess it gave me strength to design my uniqueness for the art, and also making me a stronger act till this moment. I’m proud to come from the south side. Although, it has not been an easy journey but we’ve to keep grinding hard and harder. Afro-Rap fusion is coming to dominate the industry.”

You seem charged up. Who are your major music influence?

“Well, my major music influence are: Drake, Falz, Burnaboy, J.Cole and Wizkid.”

Agwuma Kingsley - Wow, such diverse blend you’ve got there. I was even expecting a mention from the Afro-king, Fela Kuti. (Laughs)

Kaptain - (Laughs) Really?

Agwuma Kingsley - Yeah. But it’s fine. You’re growing to be a greater leader, maybe soon.

Kaptain - “Yeah. Thank you!”

What are we expecting from Kaptain? And did you meet your expectation through your recent - Kapacity project?

“Well, I’m working on surprises. So definitely I would be dishing stuffs anytime soon. Expect something great from Kaptain. While my recent project, ‘Kapacity’ was only a passage I used to tell listeners about my diversity and it was not a bad experience I got from the project. Well, thanks to everyone, my fans and including my Manager who supported the run down success for “Kapacity.” It’s just the beginning.” He says affirming.

Kapacity is severe project that really unveiled your capability. It’s worth your keen listening. He was really blunt and expressed feeling through the same passage. It was highly skilled.

What’s behind that project you aren’t letting us know?

“Well, um nothing secretive. But ‘Kapacity’ was actually about showing my other side for art. People thought I was an act only goood for motivation, like I’d for ‘Money Must Drop.’ So, this season I had to show my capacity and let them know I’m really capable of anything. Kapacity project was like showing my strength and capability because I’m not any artist to be joked with. I’m coming to dominate. Afro-rap fusion all the way” He says finally.

Wow, so what collaboration are we expecting from you and what’s the next big move from Kaptain - The Leader?

(Laughs) “Well, I and my manager are working on a lot and we would have to make surprises. A big collaboration, a new single, maybe another bigger project alongside. I guess it would all be surprises. But then, we are working on a music video for “Problem”, the second track from my recent extended play. So, definitely you’ll should expect something. And more like surprise packs.” He says.

Kaptain, is definite and his sounds like the leader who’s about taking over the Nigerian music industry overnight. Not with regular genre but is inducting his and he calls it - the Afro-Rap Fusion. The blend of Afro tunes and his synthetic rap flows which holds great fluency and intriguing melody. Kaptain, The Leader of Afro-Rap Fusion in Nigerian music industry.
